Game Rules

What's different about the AFFL rules compared with other flag leagues:

What's NOT changing:

  • Still 5on5, non-contact flag football fun for boys AND girls.
  • Can still play the sport we all love with your friends in your own town or a nearby one.
  • Still 2×20 min halves.
  • Still no blocking, no fumbles, no diving, no contact, so as safe a sport as ever.
  • Will still have fun tournaments.

What IS changing:

  • New jerseys with town league logo, numbers on jersey and names (names optional)
  • Max 12 players per team.
  • 2 referees per field.
  • QB can run the ball anytime a defender crosses the line of scrimmage.
  • Pitches and laterals are allowed.
  • No more 7 yd rush line (no more impeding the rush calls), the defender can be on the line of scrimmage and go in on 3 count OR Blitz from line (twice per half)
  • 1,2 and 3 point conversions.
  • PRO style clock in last minute.
  • Throw offs.
  • Onside kicks (no actual kicks just one play, see below for explanation)
